Doris Cyrette

Doris Cyrette is of Ojibway descent. She was born and raised on the Fort William First Nation Reserve, Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada.
Doris chose painting as an activity of personal enjoyment when her children were toddlers and she was seeking a relaxing diversion from the pressures of child-raising. She was soon encouraged, however, by friends and others who saw her early work, to pursue a more professional direction. She was particularly encouraged by Native artist and friend Roy Thomas (deceased) who she knew from her years in residential school. And the rest is history.
She was soon distributing her art prints and cards to specialty shops and galleries from coast to coast across Canada.
Doris paints primarily in acrylic on paper, although she is comfortable with other media. Her compositions are minimalist in content with simplicity of line. These expressionistic sketches evoke the emotions of everyday life.
Doris has a wide range of interests and competencies. She brings her industry and artistic sense to the enjoyment of gardening, home decor, cooking and baking. She enjoys sharing her gifts and interests with family and friends, and is generous in using her skills to the benefit of others.
She is a golf and tennis enthusiast. Typically, as a result of her enthusiastic dedication to her activities, she got a hole-in-one during her first summer of golfing.
Doris has been married for 30+ years,
is the mother of three and is the grandmother of six.
Doris has 30 years of involvement in Native arts and crafts. Her works are in private collections and adorn the homes of people around the world.
