RJ OGEMAH

RJ is a 20 year old Ojibwe artist. His roots are from the Long Lac 58 First Nation, a community northeast of Thunder Bay. RJ resides in Thunder Bay.

RJ is a graduate of St. Pats High School. His interest are in art, the mediums he enjoys working with are; oils, pastels, graphite, chracoal, ballpoint, digital art on photoshop.  He's also interested in sculpting with clay.

R.J. began painting because of his curiosity of the old masters paintings.  "The meticulous paintings of the early masters and the non-classical painters really caught my attention.  I really wanted to figure out how they achieved that luminous and lifelike quality to their paintings.  It looked like they were painted with glass; I ached to create that look," he says.

Essentially self-taught to this point, Ogemah has been accepted into the Angel Academy of Arts in Florence Italy and hopes to commence studies there in September if he can secure funding.  I want to get the best training possible and I feel that the Angel Academy is a good place to begin with.

Co-op at the Ahnisnabae Art Gallery until the end of January 2008 and will earn 2 high school credits.
