Obed Anoee Observation - Experimentation - Expression These words are a perfect synopsis of Obed's art. Inspired by the world he observes around him, motivated to regularly try new tools and mediums, and driven to express his emotions through art - Obed is a carver and a jewelry maker with a unique voice. Both of Obed's parents were artists, so while growing up; he began to experiment with carving. He enjoyed hunting and trapping to, so soon sought a way to combine both his loves. He began collecting antlers (on both successful and unsuccessful hunts!) and soon found his muse in their unique shapes and stories. Out of ever four antlers, Obed may use just two or three as he finds the best material to tell his stories - where the shapes inherent in the antlers themselves, lend themselves perfectly to his drum dancing scenes. Obed puts a particular focus on the faces of his dancers - each expression is unique. Although a part time carver, Obed regularly spends 3 -4 nights a week carving - sometimes his family barely sees him when he gets totally immersed in his art. The pleasure of production for Obed powerful as the presentation of the finished products. Obed is strong evidence that Inuit art is more than just soapstone. He is eagerly looking forward to exploring drawing, painting and carving in other materials.
