Johnny Lee is a freehand pencil artist based in Chemainus, BC. He interprets from still life, imagination and cropped photoes of chiefs, warriors and tribal people of yesterday and today.  It is with respect that Johnny credits all the great photographers throughout the ages who preserved time and captured expression through their camera lens. 

Toronto born artist draws from his ancestral roots.  His heritage is of French and First Nations descent on his mother's side and European descent on his father's side. After coming to a crossroad in 2002, he spoke with a First Nations Elder whose words still speak with clarity"The longest walk you'll ever make is from your head to you heart.  Stop listening to your head and start listening to you heart."  Johnny has been professionally illustrating in graphite pencil ever since. 

Over the years he has worked with children in the recreational sector encouraging their artistic expression through various mediums.  He received a diploma in Art and Sciences and Liveral Studie from George Brown College in Toronto.

His artist credits include: A  spotlight television feature on "The New Canoe" also, Johnny presented Buffy Sainte-Marie with his first artist proof "Gathering of Nations"  while on her recent visit and performance to Victoria, BC.  Recently one of his pieces appeared on the exclusive evening invitation too The Calgary Stampede preview.  His work has also appeared in various locations in Victoria, BC; works for the Metis Community Association; The Vancouver Island Aboriginal Transition Team; Work presented at the Belfry Theatre; The First Peoples Annual Fundraiser Gala; the McPherson Playhouse; Lonewolf Gallery; She Designs; The Spiral Cafe; Rising Star Bistro; The Lighthouse Gallery, Poundmakers; Paradiso DiStelle; The Meridian Centre; The Gallery (Brentwood Bay); Batouche Gallery (Quadra Island); Chemainus Courier; Chemainus Trading Too; Jalas (Hornby Island); Wahsa Gallery (Winnipeg); Gust Galler (Waterton Lakes, Alberta; Quw'utsun Cultural and Conference Centre.
