Jim Oskineegish

Jim Oskineegish is a 41 year old Ojibwe artist from the Eabametoong First Nation (also known as Fort Hope) a remote community northeast of Thunder Bay Ontario, Canada, and is only accessible by air.  He's currently residing within the territory of Akwesasne, Quebec.

 During his childhood, Jim gravitated towards art as a means to express his ideas and thoughts. Jim discovered art to convey his stories on canvas and also promote positive Ahnisnabae Culture to the world. Jim uses his talent to engage the viewer into the realm of Native Culture from both the legends that the Elders have told as well as sharing his personal dreams and thoughts.

Artist Statement

"I believe that Ahnisnabae art can promote healing and understanding amongst all of mankind.  Color, I believe is a power that the Creator gave us to communicate traditional values and teachings. Ahnisnabae culture is alive and well, as long as we express it in a good way"
