| K. Butcher | Signed on: Sun 28 Oct 2007 23:03:09 CDT Hi Louise: I don't know if you remember me? Barry and Roy became friends because of a lucky quirk of fate in an unlucky situation. There illness Multiple Myeloma threw them together and out of that a friendship and respect formed. I am Barry's wife Kathy and I wanted you to know how much that friendship touched him. I was thinking of you and felt compelled to write and see how you and the boys are making out? I also know that Barry would have wanted you to know how much your family touched him. Barry passed away on Valentines Day February 14th. He was positive and fought hard until the end as I know Roy did. Perhaps that is why they seemed to enjoy each other so much. They had a lot of similarities. A positive attitude and courage. He spoke of him often, even though there time together was short Roy made quite an impact on him. I hope that you are well and that life is being kind to you. I just wanted you to know that you touched our lives in a positive way. K. Butcher

The photo of the fox on the front of the newspaper was done by Travis Novitsky from Grand Portage. He takes great photos of the natural beauty at Grand Portage. Keep on being an inspiration to everyone!:-) |

Mary Beckstead from Brockville, Ontario | Signed on: Sun 28 Oct 2007 23:02:09 CDT Dear Mrs. Thomas; Many years ago, I met Roy Thomas at Eagle Lake, where I was attending my first Pow Wow with a friend from Sioux Lookout. A very tall, pleasant man spoke to me and admired the T-shirt I wore, when I told him how much I liked it and felt inspired by the design, he smiled and said "Yes, I know, I made it". Later that day, he asked me to dance the friendship dance in the circle. He made us feel so welcome. When we talked about the strife between native and non-native peoples and asked what we could do, he said "You are already doing it", "You're here and you care". I have never forgotten him, or what he said, or my first Pow Wow. As time passed I was to see his artwork in galleries near Kingston, Mtl, and as far west as Banff & Jasper, BC. It is a pleasure to say I met him, and although the T-shirt no longer fits, I still have it. Megwetch, Mary Beckstead |

Justin Anderson from Nipigon-Thunder Bay | Signed on: Sun 28 Oct 2007 22:55:11 CDT Well first of all I would like to extend my thanks to louise for inspiring my father to get some of his work out there. As time progresses my father appreciates more of his own talents, which before he was a little skeptic of what people would think. The gallery and the web site are amazing and it helps all local artists to get noticed and appreciated. To me art is a hidden treasure that every different piece tells a story. Thanks for all the hard work Louise and Donna. |

christian morriseau from Keewaywin First Nation ON | Signed on: Sun 28 Oct 2007 22:52:38 CDT I would like to thank all that have open there hearts and homes to the woodland art, that my father Norval Morrisseau created with the help of the grand fathers. There is much healing and joy for all that finds the one painting that they will connect with. I would like to thank Mrs. Thomas for opening her door to me and all the other artists and for the best advise she gave me I have ever gotten. and would like to share it all with those who buys a woodland paintings. " If you take good care of your paintings your paintings will take good care of you" So I incourage you all to buy a woodland paintings and take this heal and joy that we all deserve and share it with the rest of the world and take pride in it. Just like when the woodland moose bellos out, he cries out with pride for the whole world to hear who he is. There are many great artists in this gallery from Thomas, Ray, Tait, Fisher, Williams, Jacobson and Beaver and many more. They all have the colours and images and healing in there paintings, So make them proud and incourage them to continue what my father started. |
