EVELYN KONRAD

Evelyn Konrad, one of Northwestern Ontario's prominent watercolour artists, has her work displayed in a number of commercial outlets and art displays in Thunder Bay, as well as in Winnipeg. In her earliest paintings, Evelyn followed the strictly realistic style of her father. Greater freedom emerged in her paintings after studying with a variety of truly outstanding instructors.

In 1996 Evelyn won an award of excellence from the Manhattan Art Competition. She has been to the south of France on two occasions recently to study sketching and painting, receiving instruction from a professional artist. Evelyn has now begun her own teaching career.

Evelyn paints from the soul, believing art to be one of the most significant ways of expressing feeling. In her words, "I have been released out of a cocoon". Painting must communicate truth and meaning, because art is a gift from our Creator to be shared with others. Evelyn's expansive landscapes, their depiction of water scenes with displays of vivid colour convey a myriad of emotions for viewers to experience and appreciate.

During the past years, Evelyn's art work has been widely exhibited. Besides her home shows and her numerous weekend exhibitions, her work has been exhibited at the Grannart Centre for the Arts, at the Thunder Bay Art Gallery, the Lakehead Visual Arts Gallery, the Sivertson Art Gallery in Grand Marais, Minnesota, the Pictograph Gallery in Atikokan, as well as the Winnipeg Art Gallery. A six week display was held at the John Audubon museum in Kentucky in 2004 where Audubon has his original paintings and memorabilia displayed. She has also donated work to a number of charity auctions.

Evelyn was born and raised in Winnipeg, where she received foundational training in violin, voice and piano. She is married and raised a family of three children. Her home is in Thunder Bay, Ontario where she shares her talents with her community and church.
