"To Brother Roy Thomas & Sister Louise from James R. 'Jim' Stevens"

"I want you both to know that I count amongst my most rewarding experiences as a person, working on this book. It is a great book and a testament to your courage, Roy, as well as your faith for a better understanding of people on our tiny planet. May your footsteps always be light, your heart full, your vision keen and your pride strong"

Love and peace from Jim  -  March 2003

The book is the story of the late Thomas's journey. It's a beautiful book of art, of stories and of beliefs. Roy was considered one of the senior artists using the Woodland style, common to Native peoples of the Great Lakes region.

The book was co-written with James R. Stevens whose first book, Sacred Legends, was done in collaboration with the late artist, Carl Ray. The writing of The Spirit of Ahnisnabae Art parallels the art in beauty and simplicity.

Roy was born an artist. "Painting makes my life complete, he says. It is a gift from the Creator that has looked after me and my family. "My art has taken me to places I never believed I would go"....
