Jayan Daviau

Born and raised in Thunder Bay, Jayan Daviau has always lived every aspect of her life by the words of poet Ralph Waldo Emerson "The love of beauty is taste, the creation of beauty is art" . From baking and crafting to makeup and becoming a licensed hair dresser, Jayan’s first love has always been her art. A self-taught artist, Jayan’s primary mediums are realism and pencil sketches, newly expanding into acrylic paints. She draws her inspiration for all of her artwork from her family and friends, focusing on her love of animals and nature.

Sharing her passion for art with her parents and brother, Jayan plans to continue her family’s nurturing legacy, by exposing her newborn son, Aindriú, to every kind of art possible. Jayan enjoys spending time with her son and fiancé Brian, especially when at camp or doing anything outdoors.

In early 2014, Jayan started to explore contemporary Woodlands style, completing her first collection in the spring of 2014. Having always been immersed in Aboriginal culture, Jayan’s family discovered their Métis roots in her early childhood. Her latest creations have been strongly influenced by her heritage.

Recognized by the art community in Thunder Bay as a growing talent, Jayan’s first public collection has been described as “bold, colourful, [and] intricate.” Jayan continues to push herself as an artist, while always ensuring she has fun with her work. Her artistic mantra is driven by a quote from William Blake: “I must create a system or be enslav'd by another man's. I will not reason or compare: my business is to create.”
