Ojibwe artist Gene Boshkaykin was born in Fort Francis, Ontario. He is from the Seine River First Nation but grew up in Duluth, Minnesota. After completing his public school education, Gene worked for the city police for six years. He returned to school, attending community college then transferring to the University of Duluth, majoring in Fine Art with a minor in Native Studies. After university, he worked in Duluth as a screen printer for two years then moved back to Canada to be closer to his family.
Gene draws detailed images uses a mixed media of coloured pencils and acrylics and paints images that are representative of his Ojibwe culture, as he is proud of his heritage. His skill and eye for the colour are really quite impressive
Gene's work can be seen at the Thunder Bay Art Gallery "Celebrating the Creators" on till May 23, 2010.
