Saul MamakeesickSaul Mamakeesick was born on the Sandy Lake Indian Reserve in the summer of 1957. At a very early age, Mamakeesick (meaning "mother of the sky"), listened to his father recount stories about nature and the creation of life. These stories had a significant influence on Mamakeesick's life. His first reaction to these stories was to begin writing poetry about nature. Afterwards, he began to transfer his creative imagination to canvas and began producing "living art". He was thus able to share his feelings about life both in poetry and art.
