Linus Woods
Linus Woods
His inner
spirit driven by the stories and legends of his ancestors on the prairies,
Linus Woods, born in 1967, seeks a contemporary artistic expression. Using
mixed media, mainly oils and acrylics in layered compositions, Linus’ works
evoke memories of the past yet reflect current political and cultural
Aboriginals issues.
A
Dakota/Ojibwa from the Long Plain First Nation in Manitoba, Linus is primarily
self-taught, but has studied art at Brandon University and worked closely on
projects with Jane Ash Poitras.
His first
solo exhibit was at The Wah-sa Gallery in February 2005. He has previously been
involved in group shows at The Wah-sa Gallery and other venues such as the
Winnipeg Art Gallery, the Urban Shaman in Winnipeg, Brandon University and the
Peace Hills Trust Exhibit in Fredericton, NB in 2004. His Rabbits on the Rez paintings were
featured in 2002 at the Inuit and Indian Art Gallery in Hull, Quebec and Woods
was one of seven artists selected for the 2003 Image Makers First Nations art
exhibit in Los Angeles. His work is also
included in the collection of the Canada Council Art Bank. |
