"This painting was born out of respect for the strength of Aboriginal people. I decided to create this work because of the events that were taking place in
Caledonia at the time. I would read about the conflict in the newspaper and it would make me angry, especially the letters to the editor written by people whom I believe were ignorant of Native issues.
I wanted to do something with my feelings of frustration. I wanted to say artistically that Native people are strong and when we fight together we're even stronger. There's a lot of representation in the painting for people to interpret for themselves"
